Sony and Columbia Pictures I have a complaint to make about this reboot that you've just made about Spider-man 4. Why, can't you just forget what happened in Spider-man 3 yes it had too many enemies but because you told the entire universe that there are 6 spider-man movies that you trying make with Tobey Maguire and now your gonna reboot and destroy the whole entire Spider-man legacy. And plus Tobey Maguire has a daughter who loves her dad as Spider-man she is not gonna wanna call Andrew Garfield daddy because thats not her dad Tobey is her dad. And your gonna regret for firing Sam Raimi.

Yes well here we're trying to use logic when talking about the Oscars, and they have no logic. They campaign for whatever they want, regardless of the fact that it's completely freaking stupid to even call her "supporting." She's in supporting because the studio knows no one has a shot against Portman. So freaking dumb.

I'd contend that Matt Damon and Barry Pepper overshadow everyone in the film.

In theory I agree with you, but this was Wahlberg's passion project for YEARS. I think he believed this was going to be an Oscar-worthy role for him. It's definitely the case that these were the relationships between Ward and Edlund and the rest of his family, and that Ward was the quiet one who could never really stand up for himself, but that doesn't mean a powerful actor couldn't put on a powerful and quieting performance in the role. That's just something Wahlberg can't do. As a result he was completely wiped across the floor with all the unbelievable acting around him.

I've since read the novel and loved it as well. Knightley's casting makes sense to me because she perfectly captured that bitter/bitchy sort of jealousy. Carey might be the best young actress working right now, so I couldn't doubt she would have somehow been able to pull it off were she to play Ruth, but they were perfect as is for me. Carey really spoke true to the voice of the novel.

I don't believe for a minute that Wahlberg is disappointed that his co-stars are getting more attention. The movie is about a somewhat bland but sincere man who must overcome the stronger personalities around him to get what he wants. That's the dramatic focal point. Bale and Leo outshine Wahlberg in exactly the same way Dicky and Alice outshone Micky. All part of the plan.
